Performance Readiness Evaluation (PRE)
What is measured can be improved! The API Performance Readiness Evaluation (PRE) is a complete, bio-mechanical strength, flexibility and movement analysis to isolate an athlete's structural compensations, muscular imbalances, athletic movement restrictions and injury risk factors.
The API Performance Readiness Evaluation (PRE) includes four distinct phases of evaluation:
- Postural Assessment
- Functional Movement Assessment
- Joint Specific Mobility
- Manual Muscle Testing
Evaluation of an athlete's static posture provides the API coaching staff with an effective method for identifying muscular imbalances and structural deficiencies developed as a result of repetitive sport-related movement or prior musculoskeletal injury. Specific areas of focus include: feet, ankles, knees, hips and shoulders..
Functional Movement Assessment
The API Functional Movement Assessment (FMA) is a ranking and grading system that documents movement patterns that are essential to efficient athletic movement and the prevention of sport-related injury. By screening these movements, the FMA readily identifies functional movement restrictions and joint-specific mobility and stability limitations. These limitations reduce the effects of sport performance training and increase the likelihood of suffering a sport-related injury.
The results of each athlete's FMA are used to provide specific training recommendations for each athlete to ensure the most effective method to restore efficient athletic movement and track training progress. Specific areas of focus include: scapular stability, posterior chain strength, hip mobility, core stability and lower extremity flexibility..
Joint Specific Mobility
Mobility is the combination of normal joint range of motion and sufficient muscular flexibility. This is a must for proper mechanics and injury prevention. Mobility allows the body to move in all six degrees of motion, therefore giving the ability to perform any motion. Mobility allows the generation of elastic energy between muscles, and therefore establishes a base for efficient power production. Specific areas of focus include ankle, hips, thoracic spine and shoulders.
Manual Muscle Testing
Muscular imbalance impacts structural alignment and increases the stress on joints, ligaments and muscles. Manual muscle testing is used to determine the extent of the muscular imbalance. Athletes with specific muscular imbalances will recruit secondary muscles as primary movers to create athletic movement resulting in inefficient movement and an increased risk of sport-related injury. Specific areas of focus include glutes, hips and shoulders.

Athlete Performance Evaluation
API utilizes the NSCA Performance Index for to track each athlete's progress and athletic performance. The NSCA index is based on a decathlon-type scoring system in which athletes receive points based on performance. The higher they jump, the more points they receive. The faster they run, the more points they receive.
Collecting index data enables the API coaching staff to evaluate how an athlete is progressing in their performance training program. The four most regularly used tests that make up the NSCA Index are the best tests for competition.
- Vertical Jump
- Pro Agility
- 10-yard Dash
- Hang Clean
The index is scored on a 0 - 1,000 point system for each test. The index has been standardized so that a score of 500 is considered a solid, NCAA Division I performance standard that is not easy to achieve.
